Of all the amazing things that show up with intention – when it’s done correctly – are extraordinary synchronicities, those seemingly related events that occur simultaneously but with no discernible connection.
A few weeks ago, I heard a fabulous one from a member of a current course I’m running, Your Intentional Future, which I offered mainly to graduates of my Intention Masterclass.
The fellow, whom I’ll call Alex, was drinking his tea in the morning and planning to work with a class member that day when his mail arrived. In his usual envelope from the magazine he subscribed to were two copies, one of which was addressed to someone else in his home city.
Alex’s long-term intention, which he’d taken the course for, was to set up a non-profit colony that was spiritually based, specifically for creatives.
He googled the woman, found her on Linkedin. . . and discovered that she happened to be none other than a non-profit consultant who works with creative people to start foundations. And she lives only eight miles away from him.
His plan now is to deliver the magazine in person and make a connection that could well make his dream come true.
The same happened to Lissa Wheeler, after her dream project was stalled. She’d joined a course of mine to write a book that would help bodywork practitioners treat patients with trauma. Lissa was not a natural writer, and by the time she joined the group, she was on her third editor and struggling with major doubts that she could ever make it happen.
She was also intimidated by the prospect of marketing the book, promoting herself on social media, and getting shot down by negative reviews.
One day shortly after doing a strong intention with her group for another member, Lissa felt a strong urge to go to a particular store she didn’t even need to shop in, and, once inside, she happened to notice an acquaintance from long ago, who she remembered was a former book publisher.
Lissa plucked up the courage to say hello and open up about her struggles with her book project. The friend turned out to be now working as a book coach and immediately offered to shepherd her through the entire process, later introducing her to a new editor and to a marketing expert.
Ten months later, Lissa published her book, Engaging Resilience, which became a number one Amazon bestseller in two categories after its launch.
“It was like stepping onto a moving escalator of support,” wrote Lissa about the synchronicitous effect of her Power of Eight® group’s intention. “
Andy was another one who experienced a miraculous synchronicity.
When she joined my intention course, she shared with her Power of Eight® group a very specific intention she wished to put out about finding a dream job that would also provide ample income: “I am being highly compensated for doing the work I love which feels like play to me.”
Her other intention was “trying to get clear on my new business, speaking, teaching, and healing” after closing her retail gift store of 18 years two years before.
None of the intentions the group tried were working for her or bring about any big change in her fortunes.
At my suggestion (‘Andy – get off of yourself – intend for someone who needs it more,’ I said), she started experimenting with altruism—shifting her intention to others outside her group, and suddenly she got the breakthrough she needed.
“Two days after that, I got an unexpected offer to do product development and strategy for an online organization involved in human development, a job that would joyfully bring me money doing work I love, which feels like play to me!” said Andy.
Andy didn’t even know the person – and wasn’t even looking for that job when it came along. That job led to another one and suddenly she was making all the money she needed at a job she enjoyed.
Both Lissa’s and Andy’s synchronicity came about because of the one important element lacking in most instructions about intention: the power of intending for someone else.
Lissa’s synchonicitous breakthrough came when she and her Power of Eight® group began sending intention for a woman in her group called Dinah, who needed support to overcome her fear of not having enough money.
And Andy’s lucky phone call occurred after she was intended for a teenager who’d almost died.
“At times, focusing on one’s own intention may be the metaphysical equivalent of a watched pot not boiling,” Andy later wrote me.
“Focusing on the good of others and being of service takes the focus off ourselves in a way that allows movement without noticing the passage of time. Perhaps altruism is the secret way of both consciously and non-consciously NOT observing so the desired outcome can occur.”
Intending for someone else creates amazing shifts in The Field, making synchronicities and other miracles in your life not so coincidental after all.
