Last Wednesday evening, in the middle of the wee hours, more than 3 million people held a silent intention to heal Washington DC, not only of its violent crimes, but also, on Capitol Hill, its violent behavior.
The occasion was my Intention Experiment to HEAL America, which was held LIVE on George Noory’s Coast to Coast am radio station – perhaps one of the largest radio shows in the US, making this the largest Intention Experiment of all time.
The target, needless to say, was Washington, DC – both the crime-ridden city itself (once called ‘the murder capital of the US’) but also Congress. Our intention was to create a more BONDED America of greater cooperation and ‘all of us pulling together’.
As you may remember, in January 2011, President Obama used U of Arizona’s Tucson campus for his nationwide address on civility following the shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords.
A month later, the U of Arizona set up a new department, called the National Institute for Civil Discourse, with a bipartisan committee of honorary chairmen composed of Bill Clinton AND George W. Bush.
As Obama put it, “At a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized, at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do, it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”
One of the amazing activities of the new institute is the ability to measure the level of ‘civility’ between people, using all sorts of computer programs to analyze the words they use to communicate.
One of my scientists, University of Arizona’s psychologist Dr. Schwartz, came up with the idea of examining the Congressional Record before and for a time after our experiment, to determine whether our representatives in Congress become more civil with each other.
Global Consciousness Project director Roger Nelson was on hand to discuss the fact that 1) there is increasing evidence from his work on REG machines that a global mind exists, and 2) our peace Intention Experiments show identical trends that show the power of this very untapped human potential.
Host George Noory was gracious enough to allow me to guide the listeners through the LIVE experiment by taking them through some guided imagery and emphasizing the following Intention: ‘My intention is for for peace and cooperation to be restored in Washington DC and for all violence to be reduced by at least 10 per cent.’
After intending for greater cooperation and the end of divisive campaigning, we concentrated on lowering violence in Washington, where 1 in 100 people still fall victim to violent crime.
Heal Washington, and in many ways, you heal the world.
