No one quite knows what to make of the pineal gland. This cone-shaped pea of a gland sits on the roof of the third ventricle of the brain, directly behind the root of the nose, floating in a small lake of cerebrospinal fluid. Because it lies in the center of the brain, neurosurgeons and radiologists have found it a useful landmark for brain surgery.
But until relatively recently, it was the subject of much lore as the gateway into the soul or the higher realm, the memory valve, an energy vortex, the main tap for vital fluids and even the source of mental illness.
It was philosopher René Descartes, who first laid claim to the idea that the pineal gland is the seat of the soul, a unique meeting point between body and soul. In modern times, the gland has been consigned to the neurological dustbin, regarded by the scientific community as an evolutionary leftover, the appendix of the brain.
In all higher vertebrates, including humans, the pineal gland secretes melatonin. Production of this hormone is stimulated by darkness and inhibited by light.
The pineal has been called a photo-neuroendocrine transducer, through which a neural signal with environmental information is converted into a chemical message – in this case, to switch on or off the production of melatonin.
Master clock
Melatonin acts as a kind of master clock, regulating our sleep/wake cycle and retarding the ageing process, regulating growth and even maintaining mental stability.
Although scientists realize that the pineal is light-sensitive, it has always been assumed that the light or darkness enters as usual from the rod and cone receptors in the eye retina and makes its way to the gland via the sympathetic nerves. The conventional wisdom is that a small percentage of the impulses from the optic nerve are detoured to the pineal from the visual pathway, and it is this input which controls the production of melatonin.
Researcher Serena Roney-Dougal has gathered together some of the most compelling research into the biological means by which the geomagnetic flux of the earth might cause the pineal gland to allow us to  psychically ‘tune in’.
Psychedelic gland
Besides melatonine, the pineal gland also produces the ‘neuromodulator’ chemicals— called beta-carbolines — which affect the brain. Beta-carbolines are both monoamine-oxidase (MAO) inhibitors and serotonin reuptake inhibitors, which means that they prevent the breakdown of serotonin by inhibiting its uptake into the brain’s synapses.
This is akin to what doctors claim is the action of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac.
Some evidence also suggests that the pineal can also manufacture an hallucinogenic substance called 5-methoxydimethyltryptamine (5-methoxy-DMT) from melatonin. What might be the result is a pooling of these amines into the synapses of the brain, causing reactions that are similar to drug-induced hallucinations.
The current view is that neuromodulators need 5-methoxy-DMT and DMT in order to work and that, by blocking MAO, the pineal gland regulates and increases the concentration of serotonin. This regulatory function of blocking one chemical and promoting another is thought to be the catalyst for dreaming.
Several facts suggest that the production of serotonin and melatonin may be in some way involved in psychic phenomena. First, many hallucinogenic substances are chemical sisters to those made by the pineal gland. Yage, or ayahausca, a ceremonial drink made by some Amazon tribes to produce psychic effects for healing, clairvoyance and precognition, is produced from native vines (Banisteriopsis caapi) that are chemically nearly equivalent to the 5-methoxy-DMT in humans.
Tuning in and turning on
When the pineal gland is stimulated geomagnetically, it produces chemicals that are similar to these plant hallucinogens, which help to alter consciousness. Other studies show that psychedelic drugs alter levels of melatonin and serotonin, resulting, in some cases, in psychosis.
So, how could the earth’s geomagnetic fluctuations affect these brain chemicals? Researchers have found that electromagnetic and geomagnetic fields strongly affect the production and activity of the enzyme hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase (HIOMT). It is this enzyme that is centrally involved in the production of melatonin and possibly 5-methoxytryptamine (5-MT). Any changes in the the magnetic field can produce changes in this enzyme’s activity.
Studies in animals have also shown that any strong change in the ambient magnetic field—whether increased or decreased—will inhibit production of HIOMT.
Other research shows that serotonin N-acetyltransferase, the enzyme involved in the production of melatonin, is strongly affected by electromagnetic fields.
If this is the case, says Roney-Dougal, any strong change in the earth’s ambient magnetic field would produce a rush of natural hallucinogens in our bodies, enabling us to be more psychically receptive.
Psychic activity
A number of fascinating studies shows some sort of correlation between geomagnetic activity and an increase in dreams or psychic activity. In one such study, the famous parapsychologist Stanley Krippner set up a dream laboratory where some participants slept in a room while other participants attempted to ‘send’ them certain images in hopes that these images would become incorporated into the sleeping participants’ dreams. Upon waking, the sleepers had to describe their dreams in great detail to determine if there were any correlations with the target pictures they’d been ‘sent’ during their slumbers.
Global geomagnetic activity was tracked for 20 of the nights that one study participant was the dreaming recipient. In this case, it was found that, on nights of less geomagnetic activity, the dreamer had significantly greater accuracy in picking up the target pictures.
It may well be that our human potential is at its greatest when we are in harmony with the earth and the sun.  Traditional cultures had some greater understanding of this energetic harmony that we do well to learn from.

  2. This is fascinating! As an energy healer, my attention has often been given to this amazing endocrine gland. Since Reconnective Healing is thought to be attuning us to the new evolving frequencies on the planet, does anyone know of studies showing how the pineal biochemicals respond to these frequencies?

  3. How fascinating. WEEP News was discussing the electromagnetic interference from Cell Masts with the Pineal resulting in lower melatonin production this year. I have written to my Tachyon consultants today in this regard as certain Tachyons can shield the body from the Cellphones and Towers that cause much of the destruction to the function of the Pineal and other parts of the body. (Research Barrie Trower on Cell Masts). Syncronicity had me contact another alternate healer who is writing their own newsletter today, the subject, the Pineal . How curious. They are recommending supplementing with melatonin specifically for cancers and other antioxidant reasons.I agree when we are in Harmony all works but interference from Microwave and electromagnetic sources are creating huge problems in our bodies.

  4. Might this relate to persons suffering psychopathy who have overdone drugs such as DMT?

  5. Is there a resource for finding out about the geo/electromagnetic activity in our area?
    Thanks!

  6. Hi there Lynn,
For years I've been a faithfull follower of your insights and am mre than happy to hear from you of the pineal gland. To me it's the abslotue connection to 'the field' , the zero-point energy ... our own Source, our souls area. Since 3 years I'm a practicioner of Theta-healing, which works sollely with th pineal gland and the source and has incredible results on one's consciousness, DNA and cellmemory. It has made me be aware of a lot of different levels of energy and has increased my phsychic abilities. A true fan of the pineal gland and always with my antenna on alert if I see or hear any new ideas on the pineal gland. Thank you for being such a wonderful elaborate informant to so many many people all over the world.
    Kind regards, Marielle Jansen

  7. It might be the case that for Intention, it might be an idea to 'clean' the area prior to meditation.
Switch off any source of WORKING electro-magnetic equipment with STRONG E-M fields including:
PC's, Mobile phones, Clocks, Timers etc.
ALTHOUGH, in relation to Lynne's book, the use of unattached or idling multiple quartz crystals (x 1-3) might act as a dampening field and improve intentions.
    Just a thought.

  8. Well, this is really interesting concidering the research done by Gregg Braden. He claims that the magnetic field of the earth is changing. Perhaps that is why so many more are open to the more spiritual way of seeing things and to healing and stuff like that. Thanks Lynne - you are a gift to us all.
    Love
    Stina

  9. Are we all connected Lynne or is it a seperate case for animals? Don't they count? I still don't understand how Lynne McTaggart can quote animal studies in her work. The small sentence "Studies in animals have also shown that any strong change in the ambient magnetic field—whether increased or decreased—will inhibit production of HIOMT." - involves so much horrific vivesection just to satisfy research curiosity on this matter - to quote from animal studies tacitly implies that you agree with sacrificing animals to satisy our scientific curiosity. Thats just not ethical in my book, sorry.

  10. Those are some very interesting points made. It has also been shown that among some animals rods and cone structures found within the eyes also exist within the pineal gland, Although I am not sure if this translates to the Human pineal gland.
It does make me wonder if it is possible to create an experiment to produce an artificial pineal gland?
The Earth's magnetic field is changing, it will do so even more during the solar maximum predicted over the next few years. The outcome of this solar maximum will be Increased geomagnetic activity and higher levels, the downside of this being that the human antenna will have a hard time picking up signals. On the plus side psychokinesis will be given a boost and intentions will begin to be manifest at record speed.
For your consideration Alaric, NOAA publishes space weather data, which can be found at n3kl.org/sun/noaa.html
To gain a more local approach you would need to invest In a highly sensitive EMF meter.

  11. Pineal gland flows into the center of my brain,it clicks into "the seat of my soul"As soon as I heard the click,my soul disconnects from my physical body. As I find itself out of my body looking for an explanation of how ....or why this is happening,I travel..like being awake in a dream..coming back into my space,I prepare to take posession of my physical body. The danger lies on the gland moving out of its vortex with such a tremendous crash sound, this scares me,feeling parylized for a few seconds...moving slowly. I know how the pineal glands works in 0be projection, since I was a child....

  12. Lynne,
I’ve done a bit of research on representations of the pineal gland and it can be found in some of the most unexpected places!
Like depicted on the staff of the pope. Very interesting…
This tiny gland is shaped somewhat like a pinecone, hence the name. In the Vatican there is a special area called the Courtyard of the Pigna with one of the largest statues in the complex.
It is a mammoth pine cone! Could it be a tribute to this amazing part of our brain?
It can also be found on the staff carried by Osiris in ancient Egyptian mythology. What is it about this tiny gland that intrigued the keepers of esoteric wisdom so much?
When you see diagrams of the gland, you’ll notice it has a pine cone-shaped out-cropping, with a connected tail which sweeps upwards and backwards in a curve.
If you look at the Uraeus worn by Egyptian royalty, you will see this same shape depicted as a snake, with its head raised outward from the forehead of the wearer and the tail of the snake aligning with the slope of the head.
This is the exact shape of the pineal gland!
The Egyptians revered the Third Eye, and certainly better understood how to access it than we currently do.
    Write On!

  13. The exquisite detailed beauty evidenced in great paintings, photographs, cinematography, and in very clear dreaming and psychic activity as well as perhaps great athletic performances, etc., may all relate to reduced levels of geomagnetic activity as touched on at the end of Lynne's blog. Magnetic flux effects due to the body's own magnetic fields around the organs and tissues, modifiable by meditation, calm viewing of scenes and objects, trauma reduction practices and athletic and martial training etc.(see Jim Oschman's books on Energy Healing) may directly influence the quantity and synergistic blends of substances produced by the pineal. Along with experiments with water, it might be interesting to explore what changes might be produced by intentional groups upon the geomagnetic field rather than merely be affected by it's whims. Thank you in any case Lynne for another stimulating blog.

  14. Hi Lynn,
David Wicock has a huge file on this topic. Go to http://www.divinecosmos.com and do a search. The information and graphics are to be found on one of his videos....can't remember which one...but it is well worth the effort.
Thanks for all your work...so many people ( like you and David and many others) are helping to explain how we mesh with the universal life-force
    regards
    Lyn

  15. dear lynn,
on the US dollar bill you see the " all seeing mind's eye" on top of the pyramid.
This is the THIRD EYE of Shiva , basically the PINEAL GLAND-- which when activated becomes a direct line to higher states of consciousness.
When activates , the pineal gland creates its own magnetic field, which interacts with the earths magnetic field.
Dumb Egyptian queen Cleopatra hung a magnet on her forehead. It is NOT that simple.
However it can be resonated , decalcified and de-atrophied by divine music ( OM ) in conjunction with a change in breathing patterns and sun gazing --
-- wherein the crown chakra reaches down to make contact with its spiral vortex apex on the gland.
You can divine for water or prospect for oil at this stage.
I PLAN TO BLOG ON THIS SUBJECT SOON.
you can reach my site by punching in AJIT VADAKAYIL on google.

  16. Maybe this is the mechanism by which we consciously function at all. Maybe this is what allows us to experience the big dream x

  17. Hi Dear's,
I experienced that in some places where the earth field is intensive, despite presence of equipments, we do receive its enrgy. I personaly experienced this in my living room(presence of all kind of equiment: TV,PC, radio etc...)
comparing to my bedroom where no equipment is there, in the living room at the place of sofa, I got slept as soon as i am on, and this happen to every one who comes to me, think this is interpreting that the earth field can not be impacted only by energy of equipments....does some one experience the same ?

  18. According to Bruce Stenulson - http://www.stenulson.net/althealth/stimfreq.htm - the frequency of 662 Hz will stimulate the pineal gland. According to the Consolidated Annotated Frequency List a frequency of 20 Hz will stimulate the pineal gland.
How do you run such frequencies so that you may experiment with them? There are two software frequency generators that I am very familiar with. One is free and the other is not. The free one is called Audicity and can be downloaded at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/.
The other generator is called FreX and can be downloaded at http://heal-me.com.au/. Here you will have navigate to the FreX section which you will find at the left side of the page. In order to have uninterrupted continuance of FreX you must register it for AUD 87.
The simplest and cheapest way to use these tone generators is to listen to the frequency generated through your (computer) speakers. This requires a certain finesse for optimal results in that you must listen to the sound attentively WITHOUT using head phones. The physical body also needs to hear the sound.
There are many other tone generators but what I listed here is what I am most familiar and satisfied with. Use the Sine wave form for all frequencies except when you get down to frequencies below about 60 Hz. You will then have to revert to using the square wave form because you will not hear the lower frequencies. Experiment and see how low you can go with the sine wave form.

  19. Thank you Lynne.
Been reading/watching videos on the pineal and DMT lately. Cool synchronicity when your blog post arrived in my inbox. Watched some videos of Terence McKenna and Graham Hancock. Read Jeremy Narby's book a long time ago. If i could buy some DMT or mushrooms legally (and with an assurance they are not laced with who knows what) i would have experimented by now - because writing/telling about the experience (like anything else) pales in comparison to the experience itself.
I understand why these plants/chemicals are banned (along with cannabis) since, from the view of those who hold power, mass use could result in a large percentage of the population who would no longer participate in 'the game' that keep the masses minds in-line. And from the everyday Joe/Jane's perspective, mass use of DMT or mushrooms would lead to a lot more psychotic people running around.
These plants were intended (like all else God-given) to be used with reverence and when i look around at our society, i don't see a whole lot of reverence. If these plants are used without that respect, the results might be quite scary. However, is it more insane to allow a predominantly ego-centered/dysfunctional populace have full legal access to these plants or is it more insane to make illegal the consumption/possession/cultivation/sale of a plant - as if God (the universe, infinite presence) made a mistake in allowing plants with chemicals that are nearly identical to our own brain chemicals. I think the 'conservative' religious folks would have some cognitive dissonance over that one.
    Thanks again for your post.

  20. Absolutely loved this! The antenna of our soul in it's connection to all.
"It may well be that our human potential is at its greatest when we are in harmony with the earth and the sun. Traditional cultures had some greater understanding of this energetic harmony that we do well to learn from." Isn't this the truth?
Thank you Lynn for a very well written piece.

  21. Hello Lynne, I've been tring to get in touch with you since three months ago, even called London, talked to a girl but couldn't get any further. . . I need to get your Intention Master Level kit . . . but looks like there is no way from Perú! I'm an EMF Balancing Technique Fases I-VIII profesional, and as you know we work with the lattice and the electromagnetic field. I'm also a member of the Noetic Science Institute as well as the HeartMath & Global Coherence, I visit them last January. And all the information you are sharing on this blog is terrific and so amazing! I want to introduce all of these, "so important information", here in Lima. I'm launching a Web called "SUMAR VISIONES" to comunicate all the real Visions, like yours, all the ones I mentioned before as well as Gregg Braden's, whom I met in Sedona. In order to share yours, I will urgently need to get all of your techniques. The mails I receive offering them won't allow me to write my e-mail, it will stop before the @.
Sorry that I'm using this blog to tell you about my problem on comunication, but I've tried so many ways and you are the only one I can't reach. All of "your stuff" is a Gold Premium Work for humanity all around our lovely Planet! Please write me or tell your agent to write me so you can be known on this part of the world as well!
My best blessings to you and your wisdom in connecting with so many of us, awakening to the real knowledge! Mids

  22. And it's probably relevant to note that many people who ingest melatonin to aid sleep report an increase in vivid dreaming. Alaric, another option re local geo/electromagnetic energy is to find a good dowser. If there is a Dowsers' club or society nearby, they could probably help.

  23. It's wonderful to see so many people taking notice of this amazing "gland." I found an exercise on YouTube for de-calcifying the pineal
(go to YouTube and paste this:
pineal gland awareness + awakening third eye)
and an article on what fluoride does:
Summation - Fluoride & Pineal Gland:
    fluoridealert.org
Up until the 1990s, no research had ever been conducted to determine the impact
of fluoride on the pineal gland - a small gland located between the two
hemispheres of the brain that regulates the production of the hormone melatonin.
Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate the onset of puberty and helps
protect the body from cell damage caused by free radicals.
It is now known - thanks to the meticulous research of Dr. Jennifer Luke from
the University of Surrey in England - that the pineal gland is the primary
target of fluoride accumulation within the body.
The soft tissue of the adult pineal gland contains more fluoride than any other
soft tissue in the body - a level of fluoride (~300 ppm) capable of inhibiting
    enzymes.
The pineal gland also contains hard tissue (hyroxyapatite crystals), and this
hard tissue accumulates more fluoride (up to 21,000 ppm) than any other hard
tissue in the body (e.g. teeth and bone).
After finding that the pineal gland is a major target for fluoride accumulation
in humans, Dr. Luke conducted animal experiments to determine if the accumulated
fluoride could impact the functioning of the gland - particularly the gland's
    regulation of melatonin.
Luke found that animals treated with fluoride had lower levels of circulating
melatonin, as reflected by reduced levels of melatonin metabolites in the
animals' urine. This reduced level of circulating melatonin was accompanied - as
might be expected - by an earlier onset of puberty in the fluoride-treated
    female animals.
Luke summarized her human and animal findings as follows:
"In conclusion, the human pineal gland contains the highest concentration of
fluoride in the body. Fluoride is associated with depressed pineal melatonin
synthesis by pre-pubertal gerbils and an accelerated onset of sexual maturation
in the female gerbil. The results strengthen the hypothesis that the pineal has
a role in the timing of the onset of puberty. Whether or not fluoride interferes
with pineal function in humans requires further investigation."
(more on their site: fluoride alert.org)

  24. Dear Lynne!
Wouldn't it be a good Idea to send our intention to this pineal gland to improve it's power?
Is the power of this gland related to where we are in the world, because of the Earth Magnetic Field?
    George.

  25. Hi , that information was really great .... i think i somehow can relate this to the hindu ritual of putting a coloured dot on the centre of the forehead.. am not sure if this has any connection but just thought of mentioning it. Also, in the yoga it is the point of where you need to concentrate when you are meditating and also when you are in certain yoga positions... its great

  26. Front Page news in Boulder Co. The Boulder Daily Camera featured Carl Fuermann in an article entitled, "Boulder man: Stop Gulf oil spill with meditation." Carl explains that he takes part in the Intention Experiment run by Lynne including his participation in the Lake Biwa event and outlines his plan to try with meditative intent to close the leaking valve. His plan and the suggested alternative advanced by a deep water mining engineer are different approches. Since Lynne has mentioned her preference for a single focus for group projects, I'm wondering how this might unfold. Cheers.

  27. So nice to know that there are more people out there who share this knowlegde, including scientists!

  28. Hi You all,
thanks so much indeed for the great shot You gave to me and to my soul...
After reading about the pineal gland I've been thinking on "The third eye" by Lobsang Rampa. It's marvellous to understand how the Spiritual feelings on human inner capabilities may meet the same topics latu Science and the great power of the research.
    Take care.
Let's improve the power of intention, our real nature, our brain.

  29. so many thing happening lately and so many to come. we humans are not what we seem to be. we have to untap the real truth about us and then a marvelously world will appear just in front of all. we have been destracted with all the toys done and so many more.
wake up, urgently. get rid off the blindfold wich avoid us to see the real world
