Stop Fracking in New York (and eventually elsewhere)

Carol Ransom, a student of mine in my current Intention Masterclass, is extremely concerned about ‘fracking’ in her home area of New York state (as are millions of others).

Fracking — High Volume Hydraulic Fracturing (HVHF) — is a new method of extracting natural gas unreachable by ordinary means by drilling down and creating tiny explosions, which shatter the hard shale rocks and release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure, allowing the gas to flow out to the head of the well.

The name refers to the fact that the process involves fracturing rock and shale apart through a high pressure mix, using enormous amounts of water and other fluids (2.4 to 7.8 million gallons of fresh water for each well and up to 124 million gallons for each well pad).

Although much of the water used in fracking is collected from the well and supposedly processed, there is mounting evidence that potentially carcinogenic chemicals can escape and find their way into drinking water sources. In fact, some American householders have claimed that shale gas leaking into their drinking supply has caused their tap water to ignite.

With so much water involved, it could mean that large amounts of drinking water could be permanently contaminated and lost from the clean water cycle process forever. Furthermore, in the UK, a place not known for earthquakes, fracking was deemed to cause two minor earthquakes on the north coast.

Many protesters argue that the technique is unsafe and highly polluting – more so than coal or oil. So this week we’re going to send an intention to change the consciousness about fracking — including all aspects of HVHF.

Please join us on the Intention Experiment site on Sunday, July 1st, 2012 at 1 pm US Eastern ST and send the following intention:

"Our intention is that the air, earth, water, and all forms of life in the Southern Tier Counties of New York are FREE from the ‘fracking’ process and fracking pollution, now and forever. We also intend that New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, acknowledge the irreversible harms of fracking and protects the environment in every way for this and future generations by enacting appropriate legislation immediately."

Carole also requests that you every day at 1 PM (whatever time zone you are in) and whenever else you are thinking about fracking, think the intention, while employing all your senses to visualize it, smell it, hear sounds, imagine touching it, even taste ‘pollution free.’ We’ll start in New York and, if successful, start sending the intention elsewhere.
